SeedChange is supporting Sovereign Seeds, a seed sovereignty program by-and-for Indigenous people. Sovereign Seeds is strengthening Indigenous seed stocks, supporting Indigenous seed keepers to grow traditional, culturally significant varieties for regional adaptation, and facilitating the rematriation of Indigenous seeds to their Indigenous nations. Through their Seed Crisis Response Circle project, a cross-community seed stewardship collective, Sovereign Seeds’ partners include Blackbird Medicines, Igataqan, Ininīwikistayikēwin, Kenhte:ke Seed Sanctuary and Learning Centre (KSSLC), Kete Miinakaan Kitigaanens, Mtigwaaking, and Stephen Silverbear McComber. All of Sovereign Seeds’ work emphasizes gender-affirming experiences for 2SLGBTQQIAP+ Indigenous people.
