Suumil Móokt’aan (“the rope in which the word is knotted”) is an organization of young people in Sinanché, Yucatán, Mexico, who are calling upon their ancestral Mayan ways of living to address their social and economic challenges through food and farming. They are building a collective learning space designed according to Mayan eco-technologies, a place where their grandparents can guide them in conserving the cultural memory of the Mayas who have inhabited Sinanché for centuries, their ancestral knowledge of local plants and the surrounding landscape, and their milpas, native seeds, and traditional diets.
